Tressed To Thrill

24 May 2001

WARNERS Bay teen Carly Wood is a cut above most apprentice hairdressers.

The 18-year-old proved it last weekend by taking home two trophies from the Hunter-Northern hairdressing championships at ClubNova Newcastle.

Wood, who works at The Junction salon Pampers, won the third- and fourth-year apprentice cutting category and placed third in the open high-fashion colour section.

Her model on both occasions was Romy Van Valen (left), who is a massage therapist in the same Glebe Rd building.

The entry was a true Junction affair, with Van Valen's clothes being supplied by a boutique in the suburb called Lillies.

You will have to take our Word on this but Wood's successful asymmetrical style featured a violet `mohawk' on a black base with copper highlights around the ears.

`It's very fresh and very funky,' Wood cooed.
